Le voci del mondo (The voices of the world) for orchestra of loudspeakers, everyone with its Genesis player inside is a new composition conceived for the acusmonium de O'Culto da Ajuda, the hall of Musica Viva, Misomusic Festival at Lisbon and its 24 loudspeakers orchestra. Working for my PhD on the subject of GENESIS (software of musical synthesis for physical modelling) as a tool for musical formalisation (mainly for composition) I have realized many thousands of models capable to generate sounds. Every model, that can be very simple or very complex, has its own "voice" that - in coherence with a use focalised on the generation of musical articulated objects rather then on synthesis of single sounds – can be a complex and richly articulated sound. Some of these sounds often appear to me like voices of strange animals, cryptic signal coming from the world or primaeval sounds from musical instruments. For Le voci del mondo I have chosen 24 models capable to generate long sounds (minutes or hours) and I have assigned the sound of them to a channel of the loudspeakers orchestra; I imagine that in every loudspeaker is hidden one of these uncommon sounding objects. Playing at the mixer during the concert I shall open the listen to one, some or all of these voices scattered in space. I imagine the listen like to stay immobile in the centre of an unreal forest.

GET INVOLVED IN THE CO-CREATION OF THE XSL ALBUM

We want to involve you in the process of creation of an album, aiming to reach new horizons in collaborative art. With this in mind, we have been curating the XSL, a free sound collection by several artists around the world. A total of 324 audio files organized in 30 sound packs. Next, we are launching an open call for works created out of the sounds included in it.

I sent some short sounds I made with GENESIS, a physical modeling music synthesis program developed here a ACROE in Grenoble, where I am developing my research.

Now one (or more?) of this sounds compares in the album: some composer like this atom of sound and use it to compose his music:

I start listening the whole album to discover where an who and how someone use it.
I like this kind of art sharing: it has something in common with popular musical (and not only musical) tradition.

Musica Viva Festival, Lisboa, Thursday May 21st 2015

Tomorrow, Thursday 21st May 2015, in Lisbon, at O'Culto da Ajuda, in the frame of Musica Viva Festival, Miso Music Lisboa, première of my composition "Musica Ricercata" for for five real player and five Genesis virtual player. The composition will be performed by Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble ad acusmonium of O'Culto da Ajuda.
